Role Overview
The Health & Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that all health and safety protocols are implemented, monitored, and adhered to at Wellington Cricket Club. The role involves identifying potential risks, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and fostering a safe environment for players, members, volunteers, and visitors. This is a vital position that ensures the club operates safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Policy Development and Implementation:
Develop, review, and update the club's Health & Safety policies to comply with local and national regulations.
Ensure all policies are effectively communicated to staff, players, and volunteers.
Risk Assessment:
Conduct regular risk assessments across all areas of the club, including facilities, pitches, and events.
Identify hazards and implement appropriate measures to mitigate risks.
Compliance Monitoring:
Ensure the club adheres to relevant health and safety legislation, including fire safety, first aid provision, and accident reporting.
Liaise with local authorities and regulatory bodies as required.
Training and Awareness:
Organise health and safety training for staff, volunteers, and members as needed.
Promote awareness of health and safety best practices throughout the club.
Incident Management:
Maintain records of accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring thorough investigation and reporting.
Develop and implement emergency procedures, including evacuation plans.
Event Safety:
Provide health and safety support for club events, including cricket matches, fundraisers, and social activities.
Ensure event-specific risk assessments are completed and controls are in place.
Facility Inspections:
Conduct regular inspections of the club's facilities, ensuring equipment and infrastructure meet safety standards.
Coordinate with contractors to address any identified issues.
Essential Skills and Experience
Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and best practices.
Experience in a health and safety role, preferably in a volunteer or community setting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and implement control measures.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Desirable Skills and Experience
Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent).
Experience in sports or recreational environments.
Knowledge of first aid procedures.
Familiarity with fire safety regulations.
